KoiTek Filter Systems was founded on the need to provide products that deliver on the promise of a clean and healthy water environment for koi. Through years of selling pond products and building koi ponds, we found a need for products that produce better performance in biological filtration with minimum maintenance requirements. Our filter systems utilize the latest technologies to provide maximum biological filtration to maintain a healthy clear water environment for koi to thrive. They also reduce the amount of sludge that can build up in a koi pond.

Many koi pond enthusiasts build a koi pond with undersized biological filtration. In the beginning the koi pond may do just fine. As the koi grow and more koi are added the biological filtration becomes inadequate very quickly. This leads to disease, algae blooms, and koi mortality. Poor water quality and low oxygen levels give the algae an environment to thrive in. That is why we designed the KoiTek Fluidized FilterFall™ that will handle the fish waste from the feeding of over 1/2 pound of food per day. The KoiTek Fluidized FilterFalls media is self cleaning. This allows the filter to reach optimum effectiveness without the disturbance of periodic maintenance, avoiding unnecessary loss of bacteria within the filter.

Fluidized Filter Bed Technology

The KoiTek Fluidized FilterFalls utilizes an external air pump and a 9" membrane air diffuser in the bottom of the media basket. The water flow and massive amount of small air bubbles rising though the media basket circulates the media throughout the basket. The wheel shape of the Kaldnes K1 filter media provides maximum surface area for denitrifying bacteria to colonize and is also slightly positively buoyant. Because the media bed is moving, there are no stagnant areas in the media. As the Kaldnes media circulates in the basket, it causes old dead bacteria on the outside to be removed, making space for new younger heavier feeding bacteria to colonize. Within the wheel is a protected surface, which enables colonies of bacteria to mature. Therefore, the Kaldnes media provides a correct mix of both young and mature beneficial colonies, providing a more consistent filter performance while insuring the best possible water parameters. This leads to crystal clear water and healthy koi.
